Before marrying Mark, Kate Brewster had the unique privilege of working alongside Jalene and Steve Storenson at YT Quarter Horses in Gillette. There, she developed a deep appreciation for the exceptional bloodlines they had meticulously cultivated over the years. Following Steve's passing, Jalene made the difficult decision to downsize, parting with some of her cherished broodmares. In an act of generosity that meant the world to Kate, Jalene offered her the chance to acquire a few of these remarkable mares. For Kate and Mark, this was more than just a business opportunity; it was a heartfelt way to carry on the Sorensons’ remarkable legacy. It also marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Brewster Ranch, enabling them to build a legacy of their own within the Quarter Horse community while honoring the bloodlines that first inspired Kate.

Kate's experience working for the Sorensons was truly transformative, marked by the kindness and hard work of Jalene and Steve. They were the type of people who would give you the shirt off their backs, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Their generous spirit and dedication to the equestrian community inspired Kate every day. Under their guidance, she learned invaluable lessons about horse breeding and care, gaining hands-on experience that shaped her understanding of the industry. Jalene and Steve graciously took Kate to various clinics, providing her with countless opportunities to expand her knowledge and skills. Their support and encouragement instilled in her a deep appreciation for the legacy of quality breeding and the importance of nurturing strong relationships in the ranching community.

Steve and Jalene’s horses were renowned for their exceptional build, often described as "built like tanks." This robust conformation made them not only sturdy companions for ranch work but also reliable athletes in various equestrian disciplines. One standout in their breeding program was Monkey, the sire of most of Kate's broodmares. He was known as the kindest, most gentle soul, embodying the temperament that every horse owner hopes to find. The colts produced by Steve and Jalene's program were a testament to their breeding philosophy, halter-breaking with ease and displaying a personable nature, despite spending much of their young lives on rugged range land. These horses learned quickly, showcasing a biddable disposition and a genuine willingness to please, making them ideal partners for both seasoned cowboys and novice riders alike.
